[Editor’s note: “Take Five” is a recurring feature designed to offer a quick look at some of Oregon’s most interesting high school sports standouts. Today, we introduce you to Jamison Guerra, a senior on the Sherwood basketball team who twice has been First Team All-League and last year was Second Team All-State after leading Oregon 6A in assists per game. We asked Guerra to answer five questions from the 25 we sent his way. This is how he responded…]
OSAAtoday: What kind of coach gets the best out of you as a player?
Jamison Guerra: Definitely a coach who holds me accountable and to a very high standard; a coach who demands the best out of me every day (much like the coach I play for now). If my coach doesn't allow me to play below a certain level then it will only make me better.
OSAAtoday: If you could have one superpower, what would it be and why?
Guerra: I would want the power to grow as big as I want because then I would make myself 6'5" and that's all I would use the power for. I'm about 5'11" right now so you can see how it would be nice to be taller. I might grow a little taller if we had a big game coming up or something.
OSAAtoday: What is one interesting or unusual thing people don't know about you?
Guerra: Last year I started playing for our tennis team in the spring and earned First Team All-League for singles and got to play in the state tournament. I lost in the first round but it was still pretty fun. I've played tennis a few times casually in the past but never in a competitive match so it was a fun new experience and I made some new friends.
OSAAtoday: What Olympic sport do you think you'd be worst at and why?
Guerra: I would say ice hockey because I never have ice skated and on top of that I would have to focus on hitting the puck and hitting other people at the same time. I don't think my balance would be good enough and I would probably struggle a lot to stay upright while getting bumped around.
OSAAtoday: Who is your celebrity crush and why?
Guerra: My celebrity crush would have to be Kendall Jenner, she seems like a really fun interesting person. She's also a model so I feel like that would make me pretty popular if I was dating her.
