The 2025 OCCA Game Day Championships on Saturday was the first large team competition of the season and brought Oregon’s best crowd-leading and sideline material to the competition floor.

Westside Christian showed up ready to make a statement in the 3A/2A/1A division, and they did just that by taking home first place with a 16-point lead over the second place team. Following behind them was Jefferson in second place and Sheridan in third.

The 4A small division included three teams who are making a comeback to the competition floor this season after long absences: Mazama, Scappoose, and Seaside. Ultimately, Mazama came out on top, besting second-place Seaside by 20 points, while Philomath took third place.

In contrast, the results between the top two placements in the 4A medium division were much tighter. In the end, Gladstone came out on top with a 2.5 point lead over Sweet Home. Wrapping up the top three was Astoria.

In the 5A small division, Crescent Valley and Rex Putnam went head-to-head, with Crescent Valley taking home first place and Rex Putnam earning second.

Six teams battled for the top spot in 5A medium division; the West Albany Bulldogs showed that they came prepared and snagged the top placement. Rounding out the top three was Thurston (second) and Churchill (third).

The 5A large division saw last year’s 5A/6A Coed Game Day State Champions, Central, go up against the Comets from Crater High School. After two powerful performances, Crater bested Central and took first place.

The Wildcats from Westview took home the first place plaque in the 6A small division. Behind them, Grants Pass edged out Lake Oswego for second place by 0.5 points, leaving Lake Oswego in third place.

The 6A medium division was by far the largest division with thirteen teams competing for the top five spots. Forest Grove showed up ready to put up a fight and placed first with a five point lead over second-place Franklin. Filling out the rest of the top five were David Douglas (third), Newberg (fourth), and Sherwood (fifth).

The 6A large division only had two teams, but that didn’t mean any less suspense with West Linn ultimately besting Lakeridge by just one point.

The stomp and shake division, the newest division in Oregon cheerleading, was represented by McDaniel High School, who gave an energy-filled performance and took home first place.

Along with the Varsity divisions, local high school athletes also competed in three JV divisions: 5A, 6A small, and 6A large.

In the 5A JV division, Redmond showed their strength by taking first place with a 12.5 point lead over second place. Second place went to Crater, and Thurston took third.

Matching their Varsity team, the JV team from Westview came out on top in the 6A small JV division. Behind them was Aloha in second, and Liberty took third, earning only 0.5 fewer points than Aloha.

The 6A large JV division saw another Beaverton team take the top spot: Mountainside earned first place, with Grants Pass taking second and Tualatin taking third.

The OCCA Game Day Championships not only showed off the sideline skills of teams from all over Oregon, but it also gave spectators a glimpse of what we may see in the Game Day division at the OSAA Cheerleading State Championships in February.
