Lake Oswego senior Drew Woolworth, bidding to become the first three-time big-school state champion, holds a two-stroke lead after the first round of the OSAA/OnPoint Community Credit Union 6A boys golf tournament Monday at Emerald Valley Golf & Resort in Creswell.

The Georgia-bound Woolworth shot a 5-under-par 67 to top the leaderboard above Grants Pass senior Carson Krauss (69). Woolworth carded four birdies in shooting a 32 on the front nine and fired a 1-under 35 on the back nine.

Last year, Woolworth tied a state-tournament record by shooting 11-under.

West Linn senior Cade McVicker (71), Tigard junior Luke Barney (73), West Linn senior Luke Sidhu (74), Grants Pass junior Brevik Hill (74) and Westview senior Alex Yang (74) also are in the hunt.

West Linn, going for its first team title, scored 9-over 297 to take a five-stroke lead over Three Rivers League rival Lake Oswego (302) for first place. The Lakers, pursuing a repeat title and their third championship in four seasons, have won a state-record 11 titles.

Senior Cole Dickson (75) was West Linn's No. 3 scorer and seniors Cade Lee and Grady Kane tied for the Lions' No. 4 spot at 77.

Westview (311) and Grants Pass (316) are in third and fourth place, respectively.

5A

Canby sophomore Connor Holden, last year's champion, is tied for the lead with Eagle Point junior Jordan Giles at 4-under 68 after one round of the 5A tournament at Tokatee Golf Club in McKenzie.

Holden, the Cougars' first state champion, shot 3-under on the front nine, carding four birdies. Giles was even-par on the front nine and 4-under on the back nine.

Summit senior Bryce Grieb (71) is third and Canby junior Mason Debruyn (72) and Corvallis senior Chase Brown (72) are tied for fourth place.

Summit leads the team scoring at 13-over 301, standing above Canby (305), reigning champion Corvallis (309) and Thurston (324). The Storm's scorers are Grieb, senior Jack Mitchell (75), sophomore Grant Schroeder (77) and junior Bryden Ditty (78).

Last year, Summit had a four-stroke lead after the first round in pursuit of its fourth consecutive team title but faltered on the second day, finishing runner-up by nine strokes to Corvallis.

4A

Marist Catholic moved into position for its second title in three seasons with a dominant performance in the first round of the 4A tournament at Emerald Valley.

The Spartans, runners-up to Seaside last year, shot 21-over 309 to take a 31-stroke lead over second-place Pendleton/Griswold (340). Cascade (342) and St. Helens (347) were next.

Seaside senior Xanh Quang, who placed third at state last year, shot a 3-over 75 to take a one-stroke lead over two Marist Catholic players, sophomore Tripp Murphy (76) and junior Dominic Angelastro (76).

Cascade junior Grant Hemelstrand (77) and Marist Catholic senior Jaxen Mazur (78) and junior CJ Jones (79) are close behind.

3A/2A/1A

Crosspoint Christian senior Davis Hartwell, the two-time reigning champion, shares the first-round lead with his district rival, Bandon junior Sevren Quinn, at 1-under 71 in the 3A/2A/1A tournament at Tokatee.

Hartwell, who beat Quinn by one stroke to win the title last year, recorded an eagle and four birdies. Quinn notched four birdies in his round.

Banks freshman Jake Crowell is two strokes back at 73. Valley Catholic senior Benny Zhu (75), the 2023 champion, is fourth. Bandon junior Braedon Millhouser and sophomore Jackson Simonds are in a four-way tie for fifth place with East Linn Christian sophomore Grady Knurowski and Burns senior Coltin Miller at 76.

Bandon, going for a three-peat, shot 24-over 312 to lead Banks (321), Blanchet Catholic (337) and Valley Catholic (340). Bandon's No. 4 scorer is sophomore Trask Wehner (89).
