No. 1 Lake Oswego took a matchup between reigning 6A state champions with a 27-20 win over Casteel out of Arizona. The Lakers were down 17-7 in the third quarter but rallied to win behind two TD throws from Ryder Lemm to Jasiah Agnimel and Summit Cvitash. Cole Callahan had 150 rushing yards and a TD for the Lakers as well.
No. 2 West Linn was close with No. 4 Central Catholic for most of the first half, but a late TD rolled into the second half where the Lions pulled away in a 45-20 win.
After leading 28-7 at halftime, Tualatin closed the book on Sherwood in the second half with a 35-14 victory. Timberwolves QB Lincoln Keeney threw for 329 yards and three TDs while Iden Rule had 85 yards and a score on the ground. Brock Estes was the main receiving target with 197 yards and three TDs.
No. 6 Nelson ran away in a 38-0 win over No. 9 Jesuit. Hawks QB Braylon Gaines threw for 265 yards and five TDs, two apiece going to Malachi Garlington and Jalen Crichton, while the defense held Jesuit RB Luke Ortner to just 54 yards on the ground.
No. 7 Grants Pass was in control in a 28-7 road win over Westview. Treyton Powers punched in two early TDs while backup QB Aaron Hart had a passing TD and rushed one in from a yard out to complete the scoring.
Benson played its first varsity football game since 2018, but Franklin didn’t let the Astros off easy with a 35-0 win. Finnegan McTaggart had 164 rushing yards and two TDs on the ground while Nick Pylant had a fumble recovery returned for a TD as well.
For the first time since 2022, Cleveland has won a PIL contest, taking down Jefferson 28-14. It was also the first win for the Warriors over the Democrats since 2014. Steven Rogosin scored twice on the ground while the defense came up with three interceptions.
Lincoln forced five turnovers and ran for over 300 yards in a 28-7 win over PIL co-favorite Grant. Reed Eldridge caught the game’s opening score and then had two interceptions on defense, meanwhile Cardinals running back Antayus Wilkins had 163 rushing yards. Ben Azerrad recovered a fumble in the end zone for a TD for Lincoln as well.
Ida B. Wells QB Jude Nolan tossed two TDs and ran for one more in a dominant 47-8 win over McDaniel. Oliver Hamzaoui had one rushing and one receiving score in the game as well while the defense racked up 10 sacks.
South Salem eventually pulled away in the second half of a shootout with Forest Grove, winning 76-50. Both sides scored 21 points in the first and the Saxons went into halftime up 49-36. South Salem held the Vikings off the board in the third and scored three times to make it 69-36 Saxons heading to the fourth. Saxons QB Kellen Bowman finished with 575 passing yards and six TDs, three of the scores going to Ben Greer who also had 209 receiving yards and Sam Johnson also caught a TD and had 169 yards. Bowman also rushed for two scores. Adler Case had a great game for FG as well with 443 passing yards and four TDs, two of the scores and 120 of the yards going to Finn Aartsen.
Lakeridge went up early and took a 30-0 lead into halftime of its eventual 37-0 blanking of Newberg.
Tigard scored 28 points in the third quarter to pull away from South Medford in the Tigers 45-14 win. Aris Dimick had 274 yards passing.
Sheldon was balanced in a 31-14 win over West Salem. Irish QB Ryker Rohaley threw for 191 yards and two TDs while Cody Hall led the ground game with 110 yards and a score. Sheldon had two picks on defense.
Roosevelt trailed 13-0 at halftime to Sunset, but came back to win 22-21 thanks to a TD catch each from Naheem Campbell and Jayon Duckett, plus a rushing TD from QB Marlan McCowan.
Sprague took out 5A Caldera 47-21 with a balanced offensive attack. QB Ethan Wylam had 266 passing yards with three TDs and one rushing TD while Paul Herb did it on the ground with 143 yards and two scores.
Vita Lata did the damage for North Salem in a 31-6 win over Hillsboro. Lata had three rushing TDs and threw for 129 yards, along with Max Rodriguez who had 148 rushing yards and one score. Xavior Keller had 137 receiving yards.
McMinnville never trailed in a 34-22 win over Beaverton. Gabriel Mahn had 100 yards passing with two TDs while Patton Greene had 54 yards rushing and a TD.
Kasen Saffer ran through Clackamas to help Oregon City pull out a 27-7 win. Saffer had 131 rushing yards and three TDs with Colin Smith providing the other score. The Pioneers defense had three sacks and two interceptions.
5A
No. 1 Summit couldn’t quite get by reigning Idaho 5A champion Bishop Kelly in a 28-26 loss. The Storm trailed 21-7 but scored with 1:38 left to try and tie it with a 2-pointer, but it was stuffed and time ran out.
No. 2 Wilsonville got its season started with a 56-28 win over Milwaukie. QB Trevor Glos threw for 265 yards and five TDs, two of them to Cavan Rogers. The defense turned in seven sacks and had three interceptions and one fumble recovery.
Ryder Carpenter scored his third rushing TD of the game in the fourth quarter to lift No. 3 Mountain View to a 24-17 win over 6A North Medford. Carpenter finished with 92 yards on the ground.
No. 4 Silverton led 16-6 at halftime and kept the foot on the gas in the second half to down 6A No. 5 Willamette 33-12. Foxes QB Quenton Lake tossed two TDs and ran for another while Keysean Davis had 109 rushing yards and a score.
No. 5 Thurston scored first but No. 6 West Albany wouldn’t let it happen again with 31 unanswered points and a 31-8 win. Logan Marsh had a one-handed TD catch to open the scoring for the Bulldogs and Beau Harvey had two rushing TDs.
No. 7 Dallas scored on its second possession of the game and didn’t look back in a 45-12 win over 4A No. 7 Central. Aidan Galusha was the power on offense with three TDs.
No. 8 Sandy took out 6A rival Barlow 48-21 behind a strong game from QB Micaiah Turin. He had 322 passing yards with three TDs and also rushed for another. James Richards had 116 rushing yards and two scores for the Pioneers, and Gracyn Fitch had 152 yards receiving with two TDs.
No. 9 Ridgeview rode Bronx Lick and his three rushing TDs to a 37-0 win over Crater. Lick also had 115 rushing yards while QB Jordan Rodriguez threw two TDs to Finn Chambers and the defense recovered two fumbles.
Brody Joyce and Cooper Cousin remain a deadly combo, as seen in a 35-25 win for No. 10 Canby over Hood River Valley. Joyce had 231 passing yards and three TDs, most of that going to Cousin with 165 receiving yards and two TDs. Sam Doman caught the other score while Aiden Salazar had 140 yards rushing and a TD.
Corvallis got a fourth-quarter TD from Malachi Trimmer to Asher Beatty for what proved to be the game winner in a 20-15 win over McNary. Trimmer rushed for the Spartans two other scores in the third quarter to tie the game at 13 going into the fourth. Trimmer found Beatty for the TD in the fourth and a McNary safety was the final score.
Eagle Point’s defense shut out McKay in a 30-0 win. On offense, Eli Hamann was the horse again with 130 yards rushing and two TDs.
Liberty went up 15-12 in the third and held Churchill off the board in the fourth to secure the win. Jaxson James hit Austin Johnson for a 9-yard TD in the third that proved to be the game winner.
Adam Hernandez caught a 36-yard TD pass from Brayden Wickersheim to complete a fourth-quarter comeback for Springfield in a 20-14 win over Bend. The Millers trailed 14-7 going into the final frame but got a rushing TD from Khamani James to tie the game before the game-winning TD pass, which was Wickersheim’s second TD pass of the game.
Colton Roth had two interceptions and caught a TD to help La Salle Prep take down Parkrose 23-8. Falcons QB Nate McCoy finished with 203 passing yards and two TDs.
Gannon McNulty ran for 171 yards and two TDs to help Redmond get by South Albany 35-25. Carter Wachs also had a rushing TD and recovered a fumble.
The Dalles sealed the 20-12 win over Centennial with a fourth-quarter TD run from Creighton Clack. QB Ben Graham scored the other two TDs on the ground meanwhile Rylan Deleon ran for 134 yards.
Putnam scored on its opening drive, but Roseburg dominated the rest of the way in a 71-7 victory. Eli Rush and Oscar Kostner each scored twice on the ground and Caden Moon had a kickoff return TD.
4A
No. 2 Cascade Christian made a statement in its move up to 4A, taking out No. 3 Scappoose 35-7. QB Jacoby Gettman threw for 254 yards and one TD while Bryson Walker finished the drives with 35 rushing yards and four TDs.
La Grande scored first, but then it was all Estacada in a 54-8 Rangers win. Ashton Randall ran for 124 yards with two scores while QB Dane Carpenter had two passing TDs. The defense picked up two interceptions as well.
No. 9 Marshfield was all business in a 36-7 win over Philomath. QB Nicoya Pruess tossed three TDs, two of them to Brandon Wendelin while Jackson Herbert was the leader on the ground with 65 yards and a score.
Trailing 20-14 entering the fourth, Douglas scored twice and held Hidden Valley to just one TD to pull out a 27-26 win. Trojans QB AJ Black and wideout Caiden Maresh couldn’t be stopped with 171 of Black’s 196 passing yards going to Maresh, who also caught two TD passes. Black also had a rushing TD and Maresh had a kickoff return TD.
Parker Pruett got the yards and Conner Johnson got the points in North Bend’s 35-12 win over Astoria. Pruett ran for 171 yards and one TD while Johnson rushed for three TDs and threw one more to Josh Sullivan. North Bend led 28-0 at halftime.
3A
A matchup between the top-two ranked squads in 3A was no contest thanks to No. 1 Vale running away with a 57-8 win over No. 2 Siuslaw/Mapleton. Vikings QB Cal Johnson tossed four more TDs, two of them to Kellen Hartley while Maddox Hartley caught one and had a pick-six on defense.
No. 3 Kennedy led 19-0 at halftime over No. 5 Santiam Christian before holding off a late rally from Eagles to give the Trojans the 19-14 win.
No. 4 Burns crushed No. 8 Sisters 55-0 thanks in part to the defense and Cannon Kemper who had 111 rushing yards and two TDs, as well as pick-six on defense. Ryik Simpson also scored twice on the ground and had 63 rushing yards.
Salem Academy pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the first week, taking out No. 6 Dayton 14-12 thanks to a safety with about 1:30 to go in the game.
No. 7 Scio ran through Warrenton in a 25-7 victory. Arley LeBard had 129 rushing yards while teammate Colton Medeiros ran for 128 yards and two TDs. The Loggers also had a pick-six in the second quarter.
No. 8 Sutherlin rolled in a 49-0 win over Elmira behind two rushing TDs from Elijah Manasco.
No. 10 Klamath Union ended a 12-game losing streak to Canal Bowl rival 4A Mazama with a 35-24 win. Pelicans QB Reese Johnson threw for 284 yards and four TDs.
Harrisburg scored 20 unanswered points to down 4A North Valley 20-6. Eagles QB Chase Herrera tossed all three touchdowns while Braxton Henager moved the ball on the ground with 114 rushing yards.
Gervais scored once in the second, third and fourth quarter for the 21-0 win over Yamhill-Carlton. Frank Ojeda hit Daniel Toran for the first score, followed by a Lincoln Jones 2-yard run and then a 15-yard run by Angel Cortes in the third.
Kai Davis was a wrecking ball in Pleasant Hill’s 49-0 win over Amity, rushing for 98 yards and five TDs. On defense, the Billies recovered four fumbles.
McLoughlin came over to Salem and got the 50-6 win over Blanchet Catholic. RJ Montgomery threw for four TDs and Tyler Hoel ran for two more to help the Pioneers get the big win.
2A
A rematch of a 2A semifinal last year, No. 1 Heppner left no doubt in a 60-6 romp of No. 3 St. Paul. Alakae Rodriguez ran for 137 yards and a TD as the Mustangs had 445 total rushing yards. Keaton Coiner had a rushing TD and two receiving TDs, QB Caylan Proudfoot threw three TDs.
No. 2 Lost River rolled in a 48-0 win over Bonanza. Keagan Dunlea threw two TDs and rushed for one more while Caleb Dejong had 102 rushing yards and a score.
No. 7 Oakland ran just enough to edge No. 9 Knappa 14-13 on the road. Isaac Harris did the running and caught a TD pass from Ryan Fullerton in the second half to make it a 7-6 Knappa lead, before Fullerton led another scoring drive to put Oakland in front for good 14-13.
Collin Groth scored three times to help No. 6 Glide fly by Gaston 60-0. Groth had a 90-yard kickoff return plus a 61-yard punt return TD. The third was a TD reception from Tommy Viaene who also had two rushing TDs.
No. 10 Bandon scored 17 unanswered to sneak by Waldport 17-14. Caleb Carmack rushed for 154 yards and two TDs, and had two interceptions on defense. Kampbell Kudlac had 12 tackles on defense and kicked a field goal at the buzzer to end the first half.
Toledo survived 42-34 over Nestucca thanks to a strong duo performance from QB Austin McRae and RB Evan Burbee. McRae threw for 364 yards and four scores while Burbee ran for 146 yards with two TDs. Braden Marthaller hauled in 200 of those yards with a TD catch and Riley Tyler had 115 receiving yards with two TDs.
Santiam ran away in a 54-7 win over Corbett. Carson Childress had 212 rushing yards with five TDs while Ace Aerni chipped in two rushing scores and Kellen Crofoot had a punt-return TD.
After a back and forth first quarter, Monroe/Alsea scored 32 unanswered points to down Jefferson 48-14. Monroe had both a fumble return for a touchdown and a pick-six.
In four overtimes, Neah-Kah-Nie prevailed 70-68 over Oakridge. Pirates QB Levi Sargent had 141 rushing yards and three TDs, as well as two passing scores and a pick on defense. His teammate in Daniel Sargent rushed for 105 yards with two scores and an insane night on defense with 22.5 tackles.
1A 8-man
No. 9 Cove was truly unstoppable on offense with a 90-58 win over No. 5 Elgin. Brody Fite was the catalyst with 343 rushing yards and seven rushing TDs, and 10 tackles on defense for good measure. Jonah Jayne also had 134 rushing yards with two TDs and Parker Holder caught two TDs.
No. 6 North Douglas held Joseph to negative total yardage in a 48-0 win. Brogan Luke had 91 rushing yards and two TDs to lead the Warriors on offense.
No. 7 Camas Valley blanked Lyle/Wishram/Klickitat with a 46-0 final. Tanner Cummings ran for 271 yards with four TDs while Tyler Larsen had 100 yards receiving and Kaden Williams had three sacks on defense.
Harper Charter, the 6-man state champions last year, moved up to 8-man and started off strong with a 32-8 win over No. 9 Powder Valley. Richard Joyce ran for 218 yards and two TDs while Madoxx Martinez chipped in 125 yards and two more scores. Both players had over 10 tackles on defense as well.
Riddle had 471 rushing yards in an 86-30 romp of Vernonia. Isaiah Ibrahim had 226 of those yards and three TDs while Jase Coker chipped in 112 yards and three TDs.
DeSales (WA) put up 501 total yards of offense to take down Dufur 46-20.
1A 6-man
No. 3 Elkton recovered three fumbles and took out No. 7 Eddyville Charter in 44-6 fashion. QB Carson Peters threw for three TDs and Talon Harvey had 79 rushing yards with two TDs, plus one receiving score.
AJ O’Rourke-Smith scored in the final minute of the game and Austin DeVries converted on a two-pointer to lift No. 9 Ione/Arlington to a 26-25 win over No. 4 Dayville/Monument/Long Creek. O’Rourke-Smith had 275 rushing yards and three TDs.
No. 5 Crow took care of business in a 36-0 win over Falls City. Aiden De Leon was the workhorse with 152 yards rushing and two TDs, along with three fumble recoveries on defense.
No. 6 North Lake took out a fellow lake in a 38-7 win over Triangle Lake. Evan Grassman had 130 rushing yards with two scores and also had a 55-yard pick-six on defense. Landon McBroom chipped in 103 rushing yards and two more TDs while Blake Paxton had two sacks on defense.
Griswold got what it wanted in a 47-12 win over Days Creek. The Grizzlies recovered five fumbles, including two returned for touchdowns between Ethan Harlow and Michael Bernard. On offense, Lyle Peck ran for 205 yards with a TD and also had a 40-yard passing score, and Kaiden Matye threw for two scores as well.
