Highlights from Week 4 football games around the state on Thursday-Saturday:
6A
No. 4 Nelson quarterback Braylon Gaines trickled into the end zone on a two-point conversion to lift the Hawks to a 36-35 win over No. 2 West Linn on the road. Gaines had three passing TDs while running back Kevin Cohen had 124 rushing yards and two TDs.
No. 5 Grants Pass opened league play with a 33-13 win over North Medford. The Cavemen only led 14-13 at the break thanks to two Jordan Rossetta TD passes. Logan Eldred scored twice on the ground to open the second half, and iced the game with a third score in the fourth.
Jesuit is back in the win column with a 45-41 win over Holy War rival No. 6 Central Catholic. The lead changed five times in the fourth quarter, but ultimately it was the Crusaders pulling ahead with just over a minute to go in the game. Kyle Goodwin caught three TDs from QB Jack Wilson who finished with 214 yards passing and five TDs.
It was a slow start, but No. 9 Lincoln picked it up and finished off Jefferson PDX 44-20. Antayus Wilkins dominated his former team with 204 rushing yards and four TDs while the Cardinals defense came up with three interceptions.
Jayon Duckett and TyVelle Hill both scored on offense and defense to guide Roosevelt to a 47-6 win over Benson. Duckett caught a TD and had a fumble recovery returned for a TD, meanwhile Hill rushed for a TD and had a pick-six.
Despite being down nine starters due to sickness, Ida B. Wells still ran for 512 yards in a 46-10 win over Cleveland. Oliver Hamzaoui had 136 of those yards with two scores while Kannon Walter had 102 yards and two TDs.
Franklin pulled away in a 44-16 win over McDaniel behind an 85-yard KO return TD from LaQuante James, who also had 66 rushing yards and a TD. Finnegan McTaggart ran for three TDs and 132 yards and Jamari Cade had a 49-yard fumble-return TD.
South Salem was back lighting up the scoreboard in a 56-22 win over McMinnville. QB Kellen Bowman had 561 passing yards and six TDs, three of them to Ben Greer (158 receiving yards) and two to Sam Johnson (187 yards receiving).
Newberg bent but didn’t break in a 20-6 win over Clackamas. QB Kamden Raever had 256 passing yards with a TD, most of the yards going to Owen Kubin with 149 receiving.
Westview didn’t score much but didn’t need to in a 14-0 win over West Salem. Hank Whitworth hit Tahkai Smith for one score and rushed in the other for the offense while Cohen Trump had an interception, a sack and nine tackles on defense.
Barlow has bragging rights for another year in East Multnomah County after a 27-19 win over Gresham. Teague Emmarson had three rushing TDs to lead the Bruins while JR Medez also had 102 rushing yards.
Sheldon did a little bit of everything in a 55-14 win over Sprague. Barry Myles had a kick-return TD, Trey Duncan blocked a punt that went for a TD and QB Ryker Rohaley tossed three TDs on offense.
Josiah Jenkins continued to be unstoppable for Reynolds as he guided the Raiders to a 28-0 win over McKay. The QB rushed for 215 yards and two TDs while throwing for 127 more yards with one more score.
Grant won its lone nonleague game this season with a 48-25 victory over 5A Liberty. Deckard Hale scored twice on the ground and Jamarea Sanders had two TDs receiving.
Glencoe has a new RB in town with Abraham Castro and he helped the Crimson Tide take out 5A Aloha 35-28. Castro had 212 rushing yards with a TD.
Sherwood blanked Sunset en route to a 45-0 win. On offense, QB Kai Boatsman had 207 passing yards with three TDs all going to Mikey Brandt who had 141 of the yards.
5A
No. 2 Summit is officially on a win streak now with a 42-0 win over Redmond in the IMC. QB Andrew Guthrie tossed for 208 yards and three TDs, most of the yardage going to Cade Nitzschke who had four catches for 153 yards and a TD.
No. 2 West Albany built a 35-6 halftime lead and didn’t let go in a 49-14 win over Crescent Valley. QB Beau Harvey had two passing and two rushing TDs on the night and Godfrey Conn had a rushing TD as well.
Jordan Rodriguez to Finn Chambers was the winning recipe in a No. 4 Ridgeview 35-0 win over Caldera. The two connected three times for TDs with Chambers posting 93 receiving yards. The defense held 5A rushing leader Waylon Clarke in check as well with just 100 rushing yards.
No. 6 Wilsonville is back in the win column with a 49-14 win over Sandy. QB Trevor Glos went off with 306 passing yards and six TDs, two of the scores going to LJ Leland and the other four going to four different receivers. Luke Brainard had two sacks and Luke Cutting had an interception.
Springfield hung around in the first half, but No. 9 Thurston scored three times in the third quarter to pull away and pick up a 47-22 win in the rivalry matchup. The Colts had two pick-sixes on defense while Quintin Fisher had 242 rushing yards with a score and QB Emmit Distefano threw for 202 yards and three TDs.
Forest Grove rolled to a 50-12 win over 6A Southridge. QB Adler Case stayed hot with four more passing TDs and 199 yards, along with two rushing scores. Parker Vandehey caught two of the TDs.
Milwaukie pulled off one of the biggest upsets of the week with a 39-35 win over 6A No. 10 Tigard. QB Jayden Locke had 315 passing yards and three TDs and also rushed for 171 yards. He hit Peyton Daffern-Schell for a TD with less than two minutes to go for what proved to be the game-winner.
Crook County scored 14 unanswered points in the fourth to steal a win from Bend 20-14. Brodie Nash hit Shane Anderson for the first score and then it was Ira McKinnon running in the next to grab the win for the Cowboys.
Corvallis hung tight for three quarters but Lebanon pulled away late in a 43-18 win. Jack Whitacre was the catalyst with 183 rushing yards and two TDs, and he had an interception on defense.
Crater blanked Eagle Point in the second half after trailing 14-7 at the break and scored twice in the final 24 minutes to win 21-14. Tremaine Smith tossed two TDs and Jose Rodriguez had 156 rushing yards.
Ryder Nagel was everywhere for Churchill in a 43-13 win over North Eugene. Nagel had 287 rushing yards with three TDs as well as 70-yard pick-six on defense and two forced fumbles.
David Douglas took a 14-6 lead in the third, but Putnam came back to win on the road 20-14. QB Cooper Lemen had 194 passing yards with a TD to Dean Kost and one rushing TD. Utah Cunningham had the final score on the ground.
Parkrose got a little help from its basketball team with Keone Gates scoring twice on the ground in a 40-12 win over Centennial. Jordan Smith caught a TD as well for the Broncos and Colonel Mubikayi had a kickoff return TD.
Hood River Valley survived in a 35-28 win over Hillsboro. QB Ian Wells had 104 rushing yards with three TDs, and had a 77-yard pick-six on defense to help secure the win.
4A
Brody Anundi and Brady Kuenzi each had a pick-six for No. 1 Cascade in a rout of Molalla 81-0. The Cougars ran for 324 yards as a team.
No. 3 Banks did what it needed to do in a 24-6 win over Astoria. The Braves scored three times in the second quarter to go up 17-0 at half and made it 24-0 on Nate Lyda’s second rushing TD of the game in the third. He finished with 47 rushing yards and 154 passing while Jaic Lamb had 97 rushing yards and a TD.
No. 4 Scappoose was back on the field winning with a 55-14 defeat of Taft. QB Will Kessi threw for 199 yards and two TDs, both going to Canyon Sprenger, while the defense had three takeaways.
No. 5 Estacada fell behind 13-0 early, but scored the next 30 points to pull away from Stayton in a 45-20 win. Ashton Randall scored three of the four touchdowns in that stretch while Thomas Classen had the other and added one more in the fourth to ice the game. The two combined for 294 rushing yards.
No. 5 Henley held North Valley to only 68 total yards in a 42-0 win. QB Derrick Cox had three rushing TDs in the first half and Jesse Smith recovered a fumble that turned into a AJ Patzke rushing TD on the next play.
No. 8 Sweet Home survived the late rally from No. 7 Marist Catholic with a 37-34 win in overtime. After a Spartans field goal in OT, the Huskies got a TD from Kyle Zajic to Bradyn McClure for the walkoff winner after leading for most of the game.
No. 9 Central/Kings Valley Charter had no problem with Philomath in a 38-0 victory. Ryan Perkins ran back both a punt and a kickoff for a TD and caught a score as well. Braeden O’Sullivan ran in two TDs.
Jackson Herbert had 149 rushing yards and 72 receiving with two scores, but his No. 10 Marshfield squad came up just short in a 21-20 loss to Junction City. The Pirates scored late and went for a two-point conversion to win, but the snap was fumbled and ended with an interception.
Tillamook outlasted Seaside in a 30-23 victory. Aden Camacho Garcia had 140 rushing yards and a TD while Carson Remington had a receiving TD and an interception on defense.
Hidden Valley led after one frame, then it was all Phoenix in a 24-8 Pirates win. Elias Islas had a 75-yard scoop and score TD and Trae Casteel found the end zone twice rushing.
Brody Mahon had 176 rushing yards and one TD to help Mazama take down Yreka (CA) 35-0. Mahon also had two interceptions on defense to help pitch the shutout.
3A
No. 1 Vale continues to prove itself against top 10 teams with a 35-7 win over No. 6 Sutherlin. Cal Johnson tossed four TDs, two of them to Kellen Hartley while Tate Cook led in tackles with 13.
No. 2 Burns won a wild one with 4A Baker 57-40. The Hilanders trailed 33-26 at halftime, but only allowed seven points in the second half to pull ahead and win. Cannon Kemper couldn’t be stopped for Burns with 319 rushing yards and three TDs, plus one receiving score. Talmage Gahley found the end zone three times as well, and Dylan White had a 78-yard KO return TD.
Henry Fore powers No. 4 Klamath Union once again in a 42-21 win over Brookings-Harbor. Fore had 120 receiving yards with three TDs, as well as two picks and 12 tackles on defense. QB Reese Johnson had 266 passing yards and five TDs, and Handsome Townsend rushed for 149 yards and a score.
No. 7 Harrisburg led 26-12 at halftime and kept No. 5 Scio at bay to take home a 33-20 win. QB Chase Herrera rushed for three TDs and threw one to Kason De’Herrera. Herrera also had two interceptions on defense, one returned for a TD.
QB AJ Black used his feet in a 29-6 win for No. 8 Douglas over Sisters. Black ran for 197 yards and three TDs while Uriah Young had the other score on the ground. Preston Sprague and Caiden Maresh each had a pick on defense.
No. 9 Siuslaw/Mapleton gave up the first score, but then proceeded to take control in a 66-18 win over Creswell. Skip Lacouture had two first-half TDs along with Dylan Gray, Jericho Lake and Leighton Wieboldt all finding the end zone.
Tied at seven going into the fourth quarter, Santiam Christian scored twice to take home a 20-14 win over Dayton. Levi Thorson hit Harrison Hedlund for the first score to go up 13-7, then it was Thorson with another passing TD with five seconds to go to put the Eagles 20-14 for good.
Linkin Zamudio had 129 rushing yards and a score for Umatilla, but it wasn’t enough in a 26-14 loss to Elmira. Treyson Wasak had a big TD run for Elmira to help push it ahead early.
2A
No. 1 Heppner added a couple guys to play 11-man and took out 3A No. 3 Kennedy 26-14 on the road. The Mustangs trailed at halftime but found the end zone three times in the third quarter to push in front. QB Caylan Proudfoot had two passing TDs and Alakae Rodriguez threw the third along with 118 rushing yards and a TD.
Ben Thurman iced the game with a fourth quarter touchdown for No. 2 Lowell in a 29-20 win over Myrtle Point.
Four games, four shutouts for No. 3 Culver who blanked 1A 8-man Bonanza 63-0.
No. 4 St. Paul shutout No. 8 Santiam in the second half to take home a 22-6 win. The Buckaroos scored twice in the second, one being a 42-yard TD run from Bricen Britton and the other being a 39-yard TD pass from Jack Gregory to JJ Hempfling. Britton scored the third TD and finished with 194 rushing yards while Gregory also had two interceptions on defense.
No. 5 Glide took control in the first half to take out No. 7 Toledo 57-12. The Boomers had two picks-sixes, one by Collin Groth who also had 95 yards receiving and three more TDs. QB Thomas Viaene had five passing TDs to go with his 225 yards. The game was stopped with three minutes to go in the third quarter.
No. 6 Lost River had to rally late to take down No. 9 Oakland 20-14. Beeson Garcia had 147 rushing and all three TDs, including the go-ahead score with four minutes left in the game. On Oakland’s ensuing possession, the Raiders recovered a fumble and iced the game out.
Clatskanie took home the HWY30 Hootenanny once again with a 46-22 win over Rainier. The Tigers went up 24-0 and then 30-14 at halftime behind three rushing TDs from Landyn Winton. QB Will VanVoorst had two rushing TDs and a passing TD as well.
Regis won out in a battle with Willamina 38-35. QB Korben Schumacher had three passing TDs, two to Hudson Mumey who also had 143 receiving yards and a pick on defense. James Hayes ran for 172 yards and a TD,
Illinois Valley picked up a key fourth down and turned it into six points on a Tommy Eaton TD run to put away Lakeview late 18-10.
Grant Union kept Weston-McEwen at a distance the whole night in a 26-8 win.
1A 8-man
No. 1 Adrian continues to be unmatched in 8-man football with a 92-6 win over Union. Marcus Nunez ran for 103 yards and three TDs while Mannie Mulrony joined him with three rushing TDs of his one.
Broden Ferguson pounded the rock to guide No. 7 Perrydale to a 46-0 win over Pine Eagle. The RB had 127 rushing yards with four TDs, and 13 tackles on defense, while Landon Eichler had 74 rushing with a score, plus two sacks on defense.
No Madoxx Martinez no problem for No. 8 Harper Charter as it took out Prairie City/Burnt River 50-26. Richard Joyce stepped up with 244 rushing yards and four TDs, as well as 159 passing yards with three more scores.
Kooper Grover ran for 202 yards and two TDs to help lead Joseph to a 62-14 win over Lyle/Wishram/Klickitat. Andy Nichols and Colton Castilleja chipped in two rushing TDs each and Caleb Taggart led the defense with 10.5 tackles and 2.5 sacks.
Sherman won a shootout with Elgin 80-52 despite seven passing TDs from Elgin QB Ely Murphey who also had 391 passing yards. Britton Parks had 285 receiving yards and caught five of the TDs.
Cove held a comfortable distance throughout in a 58-42 win over Powder Valley. QB Matthew Blake had 233 passing yards with four TDs, two each to Parker Holder (80 receiving yards) and Brody Dickenson (121 receiving yards), the latter of which also had an interception on defense.
Pilot Rock/Ukiah took out Vernonia 44-20 as Nathan Endersby tossed four TDs, marking the Rockets second consecutive win, something that hasn’t happened since 2023. Endersby also ran for a TD and Marshall Hull had a 45-yard fumble return TD.
Lalan Wilder ran wild on the first play of the game to set the tone in a 76-6 Chiloquin win over Reedsport. Wilder had 108 rushing yards and four combined TDs while Trayvon Jackson hit Dilen Black for two 55-yard TDs.
1A 6-man
No. 4 Ione/Arlington scored first, but it was all No. 1 Jordan Valley after that in a 34-12 win for the Mustangs. Cardinals standout RB AJ Rourke-Smith was held to 157 rushing yards and the lone opening touchdown.
No. 8 Days Creek scored first, but No. 2 Elkton raced out to the first half lead and didn’t give it up in a 50-24 win. Talon Harvey led with 230 rushing yards and three TDs along with an interception on defense and a team-high eight tackles.
No. 3 North Lake hung on for a 34-26 win over Powers. Four different Cowboys scored rushing TDs, led by Landon McBroom with 138 rushing yards and one score, and Evan Grassman with 101 yards and a TD. Grassman also came up with two interceptions on defense.
No. 6 Crow got back to winning with a 65-6 win over McKenzie. Aiden De Leon had 167 rushing yards and two TDs while Blake Furniss had 103 on the ground with three TDs.
No. 7 Dayville/Monument/Long Creek took out Falls City 61-20. QB Josh Thomas had 277 passing yards with four scores, plus another 147 rushing and three more TDs. Parker Grassl was the main receiving target with 162 yards and three TDs. Thomas added two sacks on defense as well.
Carter McBee ran for 102 yards and a score for South Wasco County, but it wasn’t enough in a 52-20 loss to Wallowa.
Country Christian used eight turnovers to turn back Gilchrist 42-6.
