BOISE -- South Salem completed a perfect run through the Buck's Spring Classic baseball tournament on Saturday in Boise.

The Saxons, fifth in the OSAAtoday 6A coaches poll, went 4-0 against Idaho teams at the tournament to improve to 7-2 for the season.

South Salem beat Centennial 13-2 on Thursday and defeated Twin Falls 3-0 and Capital 11-7 on Friday. The Saxons blitzed Madison 13-3 on Saturday, building a 10-0 lead by the fourth inning and coasting to the win.

“It was a great way to cap it off,” South Salem junior Greyson Hanowell said. “In no other Boise trip in South Salem history have we gone undefeated. So it was great to come here on a baseball business trip, and to come out with four wins is a big bonus.

“I think we really gelled together. Not just on the field, but in the house as well, how we interact with each other and becoming more of a family. I think it’s going to carry us a long way.”

Senior Kaiden Doten went 10 for 14 with a grand slam and eight RBIs in the four games. Hanowell went 7 for 15 with six RBIs and sophomore Danny Alvarado went 7 for 12 with two home runs and eight RBIs.

Sophomore pitcher Tyler Minney, one of three JV players who got called up for the trip, pitched a six-inning complete game in Saturday’s win. He did not allow a hit through three innings.

“They do this all the time. It’s definitely nice to help them out a little bit and give them a cushion,” Minney said of his teammates. “It was great. I’ve never had a trip like this. It’s one of a kind, so it was nice to get to be out there.”
