Les Schwab Invitational first-round games Thursday at Liberty High School:
Mater Dei (Calif.) 77, Jesuit 52: Junior guard Devin Askew, a Kentucky commit, recorded game highs of 21 points and seven assists to lead the Monarchs past the reigning 6A champion Crusaders. Jesuit led 26-25 at half before Mater Dei took control by outscoring the Crusaders 26-9 in the third quarter. Junior Nick Davidson added 15 points and 10 rebounds for the Monarchs, who had a 40-27 edge in rebounds. Junior wing Liam Rutledge had a team-high 18 points for Jesuit, making 4 of 6 from three-point range.
Central Catholic 78, Grant 34: DeRay Seamster made 8 of 10 shots and scored 18 points to lead the Rams, who led 44-9 at half. Aidan Slater made four three-pointers and scored 16 points and Isaiah Amato added 10 points and seven assists for Central Catholic, which held Grant to 24.4-percent shooting. The Rams shot 12 of 22 on three-pointers.
Churchill 55, Barlow 52: Game story
Norcross (Ga.) 62, West Linn 58: Josh Taylor, a 6-foot-9 senior who has committed to Georgia, shot 11 for 14 on his way to 24 points and nine rebounds to lead Norcross to the win. JT Thor, a 6-10 senior, added 15 points, five rebounds, four assists and four blocked shots for the Blue Devils. West Linn freshman guard Jackson Shelstad made five three-pointers and finished with 20 points and four assists.
Jefferson, 82, Battle Ground (Wash.) 54: Marquis Cook, a 6-7 freshman guard, led the Democrats with 22 points, eight rebounds and three assists, making 10 of 13 shots. Jefferson also got 17 rebounds and three blocked shots from Nate Rawlins-Kibonge and 19 points, five rebounds and six assists from Keshawn Hall. The Democrats had a 52-28 edge in rebounds over Battle Ground, which got 18 points from Brendan Beall, who made four three-pointers.
Crater 71, Clackamas 54: Game story
Eastside Catholic (Wash.) 78, Wilsonville 69: Junior guard Shane Nowell scored 21 points to lead the Crusaders, who built the lead as high as 20 points early in the fourth quarter. Wilsonville's Gabe Reichle made four three-pointers and finished with 23 points and six assists. The Wildcats committed 15 turnovers to seven for Eastside Catholic, which had 12 steals.
Bishop Gorman (Nev.) 63, Lake Oswego 52: The eight-time reigning Nevada champion Gaels came back after trailing 33-26 at halftime to defeat the Lakers. Junior guard Zaon Collins had 23 points, six rebounds and four assists and senior forward Mwani Wilkinson added 18 points in the win for Bishop Gorman, which outscored the Lakers 21-9 in the fourth quarter. Lake Oswego got 19 points from Jack Chlumak and 12 points from Trace Salton.
