Author’s note: “Senior Spotlight” is a miniseries offering a quick look at some of Oregon’s Class of 2022 dance standouts. Today, we are getting to know Putnam dancer Jordyn Mitchelldyer. Mitchelldyer is a two-time Royal Crown team captain and was named to the 2021 Northwest Oregon Conference All League Dance Team. We provided Mitchelldyer with a series of questions to answer. Her responses are below!
OSAAtoday: What part of the dance team season is your favorite and why?
Jordyn Mitchelldyer: My favorite part of the season is the summer and beginning of the school year leading up to the fall season, because that’s when we go to different camps like Thunderbird and perform at football games. The team really starts to bond during camp and when we first practice all together. It’s so fun to experience each year with a different group of people.
OSAAtoday: Why did you decide to join your high school dance team?
Mitchelldyer: I have been dancing since I was 2 years old. I knew I wanted to join high school dance team since I knew what it was. My cousin was also on dance team, and we used to watch her at State, which was super cool to see and experience. That really solidified for me that I wanted to be part of dance team.
OSAAtoday: What style of dance do you enjoy performing the most?
Mitchelldyer: Hip-hop and funk because the crowd gets the most hyped!
OSAAtoday: What’s next for you after graduation? Will you pursue dance after high school?
Mitchelldyer: After graduation I plan to go to university for Sports Business Management or Music Management. I would love to study abroad and travel. As for dance, I hope to still be able to take classes, whether that be at a studio or open classes, to keep up my flexibility and endurance, and because I can’t imagine not doing dance. It’s all I’ve ever known.
