Jamal Jones will succeed Jesse Thompson as the football coach at Franklin.

Franklin has announced the hiring of Jamal Jones as football coach.

Jones will replace Jesse Thompson, who left to coach the Alabama Airborne of Major League Football. The Lightning went 4-2 and 3-6 in two seasons under Thompson.

After a thorough search for the new Head Football Coach, Franklin High School is proud to announce the hiring of Jamal Jones. 

Jamal Jones graduated in California where he was a very successful athlete. That success, specifically in football landed him in college where he started his Football career at Chabot College. While at Chabot, his Sophomore was his highlight season as he was voted to All Conference as a Cornerback. Following Chabot College, Jamal was able to continue his college career at Humboldt State University. It was there he continued to excel, learn, and hone in on his craft. In Jamal's Senior season he was again voted to All Conference in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference ( Division II) as a Cornerback.

Following his playing career, Jamal wanted to continue pursuing his passion of football. Jamal turned to the coaching world. His first opportunity was with his Alma Mater at Humboldt State. During this tenure, he was responsible for assisting the Head Football Coach and the Defensive Coordinator with all day to day operations. The knowledge, skills learned, and the level in which he received this training positioned Jamal for a bright future in coaching football. After coaching college, Jamal was seeking an opportunity to lead a program. He applied and got the Arcata High School Head Football Position back in 2016.  

Jamal has been the high school head coach At Arcata High School for the past five years. During his five years, he led the football program to five consecutive winning seasons, five consecutive playoff appearances, two league championships, and two state playoff championship appearances. Jamal has also assisted 21 young men with continuing their athletic and academic careers at the college level.   

We are excited to have Jamal as our football coach. He is a kid connector, goes out of his way to go above and beyond the call of duty. Jamal brings excitement, enthusiasm, and a relentless perseverance. He loves the game of football, loves to teach, mentor, and develop the person through the art of coaching.
