Jesuit's boys golf team came out on fire in the first round of the OSAA/OnPoint Community Credit Union 6A tournament Monday at Quail Valley Golf Club in Banks.

The Crusaders – seeking their first title since a three-peat from 2017 to 2019 – combined to shoot a 4-over 292 to lead Grants Pass (303), Westview (304), Sherwood (307) and reigning champion Lake Oswego (307).

Jesuit junior Jack Harrington and senior Mason Zimmerman each fired an even-par 72 to stand tied in second place, three strokes behind the leader, Lake Oswego sophomore Drew Woolworth. The Crusaders also got a 73 from senior Grady Brown and 75 form junior Joseph Ulrich.

Woolworth, who finished 11th in the tournament in 2023, had three bogeys but made up for it with four birdies as well as an eagle on the 521-yard, par-five fifth hole.

Woolworth will have plenty of work to do in Tuesday's second and final round, however, as eight golfers are within four strokes of the lead. Jesuit's Brown is in a six-way tie at 73 with Westview senior Andy Yang, West Linn sophomore Cade McVicker, Lakeridge senior Nilay Naik, Lincoln junior Quinn Hefele and Grants Pass senior Messiah Gilbert.

5A

Summit took a big step toward a third consecutive state title by taking a commanding first-round lead in the 5A tournament at Quail Valley.

The Storm, the 6A champion in 2022 and 5A champion last year, shot 303 to open a 12-stroke lead over second-place La Salle Prep (315). Wilsonville is third at 320.

Summit senior Jakob Hansen, Wilsonville junior Michael Flaherty and Crescent Valley senior Cole Rivers are tied for first at 2-over 74, one stroke ahead of La Salle Prep freshman Matthew Martin and Wilsonville sophomore Luke Sidhu.

In last year's tournament, Flaherty was the co-medalist, Hansen tied for sixth and Rivers tied for 22nd.

Summit's scorers Monday were Hansen, senior Owen Harper (76), freshman Bryden Ditty (76) and sophomore Bryce Grieb (77).

4A

Reigning champion Baker/Powder Valley holds a four-stroke lead over Marist Catholic after the first round of the 4A tournament at Emerald Valley Golf Club in Creswell.

The Bulldogs are led by sophomore Elias Long, who shot a par-72 to share the lead with Phoenix freshman Jordan Giles. Long placed sixth in the tournament a year ago.

Cascade senior Kyler Hemelstrand (73) is in third place, followed by Molalla junior Massimo Cereghino (75) and Scappoose senior Tucker Olson (76).

Baker/Powder Valley shot 328 as a team to hold the lead over Marist Catholic (332), Cascade (343) and Scappoose (346). The Bulldogs' lineup also features juniors Isaiah Jones (79), Jaxon Logsdon (84) and Palmer Chandler (93).

3A/2A/1A

Led by freshman Sevren Quinn, Bandon surged to the top of the 3A/2A/1A tournament at Emerald Valley.

The Tigers, who won their only title in 2018, shot 318 behind Quinn (75), junior Peyton Simonds (76) and seniors Sean Ells (82) and Carter Brown (85). They built a large cushion over Valley Catholic (341), Western Christian (348) and St. Mary's (349).

Crosspoint Christian sophomore Davis Hartwell shot a 1-over 73 to take a two-stroke lead over Quinn and Valley Catholic sophomore Benny Zhu, the reigning champion. Simonds and Prairie City sophomore Sawyer Quinton are two strokes back.
