PORTLAND -- Junior point guard McKelle Meek made four three-pointers and scored 28 points to lead No. 2 Southridge to a 68-62 overtime win over La Jolla Country Day (Calif.) in the Pacific Office Automation Holiday Classic girls basketball tournament Friday at Franklin High School.
The semifinal win puts the Skyhawks (7-3) into the Diamond bracket final, where they will face No. 3 Benson at 6:30 p.m. Saturday. It will be a rematch of last season’s 6A championship game, won by Southridge 46-27.
Meek hit a three-pointer with six seconds left in regulation to tie, then scored nine points in overtime. She finished 6 of 12 from the field, including 4 of 7 from three-point range, and 12 of 14 from the free-throw line.
Southridge junior Cameron Brink made 9 of 16 shots and finished with 18 points and eight rebounds before fouling out with 2:49 left and the Skyhawks trailing by four points. Sophomore Kilyn Dawkins added 12 points and eight rebounds.
La Jolla Country Day (10-7) got 26 points, seven rebounds and four assists from junior point guard Te-hina Paopao and 10 points, five rebounds and five assists from sophomore Jazzy Anousinh.
Sierra Canyon (Calif.) 80, Grant 55: Alexis Mark and Vanessa De Jesus scored 21 points apiece to lead the Trailblazers past the Generals in a Platinum bracket semifinal. Sierra Canyon (14-0) will play for the bracket title against Kentridge (Wash.) at 8 p.m. Saturday.
Senior wing Monka Hickok had 23 points and seven rebounds for No. 10 Grant (3-4), which trailed 50-26 at half. Senior guard Marin Leonard added 11 points.
