Highlights from Week 0 football games around the state on Friday and Saturday:

6A

No. 1 Lake Oswego’s defense thwarted No. 6 Willamette in a 34-7 victory in Eugene. First-year starting QB Ryder Lemm led the Lakers on offense with 266 yards and four scores. Cameron Elijah added to the scoring with a 65-yard pick-six. … No. 4 Tualatin blocked a punt and got an interception return of over 100 yards from Cole Hachmeister to end the first half and rode that momentum to a 52-13 win over Mountainside. Timberwolves QB Lincoln Keeney threw for 147 yards and a TD while the ground game ruled, led by Iden Rule with 82 rushing yards and a TD. Reece Ballew led the Mavericks with 104 rushing yards and two scores and also caught three passes for 94 yards.

No. 10 Grants Pass scored three times in the final three minutes to send the game with No. 5 Nelson into overtime, and the Cavemen ultimately prevailed 49-48 thanks to a blocked PAT in OT. Grants Pass QB Aaron Hart stepped in for the starter, Jordan Rossetta, and threw for 383 yards and five TDs while Treyton Powers dominated on the ground with 172 rushing yards and two TDs. Powers also caught two TDs but the receiving leader was James Traylor III with 183 receiving yards and two TDs. … North Medford pulled off the home upset of No. 9 Lakeridge 22-14 thanks to four turnovers from the defense, three of them coming in the red zone. On offense, QB Quinn Scott had 264 passing yards with three TDs, two of them going to Brady Patterson. … Oregon City started the season on the right foot by cruising to a 42-13 win over South Medford. The Pioneers did damage on the ground with 321 total rushing yards, 136 of it coming from Kasen Saffer who also scored twice. Wyatt Boeckel had two sacks on defense as Oregon City also picked up three turnovers.

5A

The 5A reigning champs in No. 1 Silverton struggled at home against Coeur d’Alene (ID) in a 37-7 loss. The Foxes won this matchup 21-14 to open last season. … Defense ruled the day in the matchup between No. 4 Mountain View and No. 6 West Albany, and ultimately it was the Cougars coming out on top 13-10. Mountain View got a pick-six in the first quarter from Jaedin Jangala and added the only offensive score it needed in the second on a 10-yard Ryder Carpenter rushing TD. … No. 5 Thurston forced five turnovers to down 6A crosstown rival Sheldon 20-17. The Colts led 7-3 at the break and scored on a Rocco Folino run to go up 14-3. The Irish scored to cut into the lead, but Leofatu Filipe had a pick-six to put Thurston up 20-10 and for good. 

Ridgeview took out a preseason top 10 team in No. 9 Lebanon 35-21 to open the season. Ravens QB Jordan Rodriguez threw for 201 yards and two scores while Finn Chambers tossed a 38-yard TD pass as well. … No. 10 Canby blitzed Churchill to the tune of a 49-22 victory. Cougars QB Brody Joyce and WR Cooper Cousin did most of the damage on offense where Joyce threw for 284 yards and three TDs, Cousin hauling in 264 of those yards and two of the scores. Joyce also ran for 84 yards and another score. … 6A Beaverton scored first, but then it was all Caldera as the Wolfpack scored 26 unanswered points. Waylon Clarke scored twice on the ground to help them take down the Beavers in the program’s first season-opening win.

Roseburg had three second-half turnovers to take out old-school rival Ashland 18-7. Leto White had 126 rushing yards and the first TD of the game. Elias Rush and Oscar Kostner had the other two scores for Roseburg. … Eli Hamann couldn’t be stopped in Eagle Point’s 47-7 win over Yreka (CA). Hamann ran for 250 yards and four TDs, three of them coming in the third quarter to blow the game open after a 20-7 Eagle Point lead at halftime. 

4A

No. 3 Scappoose went out east and rolled over Pendleton/Nixyaawii with a 41-6 win. QB Will Kessi threw for 319 yards and two scores, most of that split between Evan Dubois (119 yards) and Canyon Springer (127 yards). The Indians added 175 rushing yards and four scores, two from Elijah Greenan Biggs. … No. 8 Tillamook scored first, but then it was all No. 10 Central in a 42-7 win for the Panthers. Two big pass plays and two rushing TDs made it a 28-7 halftime lead for Central as it held the Cheesemakers at bay the rest of the way. … No. 9 Banks returned to 4A with a bang, taking out Philomath 58-0. The Braves had five interceptions, three of which were returned for scores, and forced a fumble. Grady Lucia, Damien Robles and Ben Lyda were the three returners while Jaic Lamb had 52 rushing yards and two scores on offense to go with one pick on defense.

La Grande ran for 239 yards as a team and forced three turnovers and had 5.5 sacks to take out 5A Redmond 30-13. Deegan Nelson led the rushing attack in yards with 88 but three scores all came from different runners in Bryler Anderson, Abel Nelson and QB Jack Musgrove, the latter of which also threw for 147 yards and a score. … Stayton grabbed a 27-12 lead at halftime and survived a late rally from Astoria to win 41-37 out on the coast. … Sutherlin scored 23 second-half points to rally back from a 14-6 deficit and down North Bend 29-14. Brody Abney had 180 rushing yards and a TD while Elijah Manasco punched into the end zone twice from the ground.

Ontario took control early and kept McLoughlin at bay in a 34-21 win. The Tigers led 14-6 at halftime and went up 28-6 to start the fourth. The Pioneers added a couple fourth-quarter scores. … Seaside forced 3A No. 10 Warrenton into turnovers all night en route to a 27-13 win over its coastal rival. Efrain Ramirez had two rushing TDs for the Seagulls.

3A

No. 1 Burns gave up 462 yards of offense as Weiser (ID) rolled to a 34-0 win. … No. 2 Vale fell down early to 4A No. 6 Estacada at 14-6, but scored the next four touchdowns and pulled away in a 32-28 victory. Vikings QB Cal Johnson completed nine passes, but they went for 241 and five touchdowns. Kellen Hartley caught all five scores and finished with 178 receiving yards. … Despite the lights going out twice, No. 3 Santiam Christian dug deep on defense to blank a 3A semifinalist from last year in Gervais with an 18-0 win.

No. 5 Siuslaw/Mapleton had no issues with Coquille to open the season, picking up the win 44-0. Vikings QB Jericho Lake had three touchdown passes and rushed for two more to lead the effort on offense. … Klamath Union blanked No. 8 Douglas in the second half while adding a TD and a safety to win 24-12 for the early season upset. KU QB Reese Johnson had 177 passing yards with two scores while the defense came up with two interceptions. The win was the Pelicans first against a top 10 team since 2013. … Grady Maylin returned a fumble recovery for a touchdown to swing the momentum in a 35-12 Brookings-Harbor win over Gold Beach. Kaedin Socia, Henry Austin, Owen Austin and Elias Haro all scored as the Bruins took over and kept Gold Beach from getting back into the game.

2A

No. 2 Heppner looks strong again thanks to a 44-0 win over Crane to open the year. Alakae Rodriguez ran for 131 yards and two TDs and also had 12 tackles on defense to lead the Mustangs. … No. 3 St. Paul couldn’t be stopped in a 52-14 win over No. 4 Oakland. The Buckaroos got two rushing TDs and 174 yards from Bricen Britten while JJ Hempfling and Max Burns each scored once on the ground to jump out to a 32-0 lead in the second quarter. 

1A 8-man

No. 1 Adrian has now won 25 consecutive games with a 58-12 drubbing of Tri-Valley (ID) to open the season. Mannie Mulrony ran for 133 yards and two TDs and also had an interception on defense. Fellow senior Kash Morford had 167 rushing yards with a score and a 51-yard TD reception. … No. 3 Imbler was a force on offense in a 58-36 win over Cove. Carson Yancey ran for three TDs while Paden Phelps tossed four TD passes as well, three of them going to Pedro Rivas. … No. 4 Crosspoint Christian survived a battle with No. 5 North Douglas in a 26-14 win between the two Warriors. Nate Gibson scored on a pick-six for Crosspoint in the third quarter to break a 14-14 tie and proved to be the difference. Gibson also had a 54-yard TD run in the first quarter.

Weston Evans ran for three touchdowns to help No. 9 Elgin take care of No. 6 Union 62-20. Huskies QB Ely Murphey threw for 234 yards and a “handful” of touchdowns as well as picking up an interception on the defensive side of the ball. … No. 8 Powder Valley stuffed a two-point conversion try in overtime by Echo and followed it up with a TD and 2-pointer of its own to win 20-18. … No. 10 Camas Valley rolled in a 52-0 win over Prospect Charter behind two rushing and two passing touchdowns from Luke Baker. Tanner Cummings also had two scores on the ground.

1A 6-man

No. 4 Powers handled No. 3 Eddyville Charter in a 31-7 season-opening win. Tyler Fandel was the catalyst with 179 rushing yards and three TDs on the ground, meanwhile Dan Shorb wasn’t far behind with 142 rushing yards and a score. Shorb also had 11.5 tackles on defense with a sack and Fandel had an interception. … Ione/Arlington played a wild first quarter with McKenzie and ultimately came away with a 56-25 win. The Cardinals led after the first up 28-19 and turned that into a 42-19 lead at halftime. AJ O’Rourke-Smith finished the game with 254 rushing yards and six TDs while Leo Lemus had two interceptions, one for a pick-six, and 107 rushing yards.
